Breastfeeding and Breast Augmentation
One of the most asked questions regarding Breast Augmentation surgery is whether or not a patient can breast-feed afterward. First and foremost you should always talk to your plastic surgeon regarding your future plans to breast-feed, that way you and your plastic surgeon can both work together to be able to achieve the best possible results without compromising your breast-feeding plans. During a breast augmentation, it is extremely important that the dissection must be performed carefully so as to disrupt or interrupt the milk ducts as little as possible. The most important thing you must understand is that there are no guarantees that you will be able to breast-feed your baby, regardless if you have had a breast augmentation or not. Many women have had concerns about passing silicone if their implants were to rupture. If your implants were to rupture, it’s very important that you know that neither saline nor silicone implants can leak into your breast milk. There have been studies that silicone molecules are too large to pass through the milk ducts and breast gland tissue. Dr. Pousti has had many patients who have had breast augmentation surgery who have had success with breast-feeding afterward. Here is a testimonial of one of Dr. Pousti’s patients: “I had breast augmentation performed by Dr. Tom Pousti after breast feeding 2 kids. My breasts were empty and a little “saggy”. I didn’t feel good about my body after pregnancy but everything changed after having my breasts enhanced. My results are wonderful! I had saline implants and was a “C-cup”!! I love them. My incision is at the junction of the areola and my breast. 2 years after my surgery, I found out that I was pregnant again! I was worried about how the pregnancy would affect my breasts and if I would be able to breast feed. My breasts got larger while I was pregnant and I was happily surprised to see that I had no problem breast feeding even after the breast augmentation surgery. I ended up having 2 more kids and nursing both of them with no problems. My breasts were still beautiful and looked very natural. After my last child, I decided to exchange my saline implants for silicone gel breast implants (that had just become FDA approved). Dr. Pousti performed this procedure for me as well and I am extremely happy with my results. He truly cares for his patients and does beautiful work! Thank you!!” Testimonial: Dear Dr. Pousti and Staff, I just wanted to thank you guys so much for all you have done. I had contemplated having breast augmentation for many years, but after breastfeeding my second child I knew it was something I wanted to do. After doing some Internet searching and speaking with friends and family I came to Dr. Pousti. From the first moment I met Dr. Pousti and his staff I was thoroughly impressed. Since I know 2 people who were already very satisfied with the work Dr. Pousti had done for them, after meeting him I knew instantly he was the surgeon for me. He and his staff were extremely accommodating as far as scheduling. When the day of surgery came, I was extremely nervous, Dr. Pousti and his team totally calmed my nerves. Dr. Pousti even held my hand to comfort me as they put me under. After surgery Dr. Pousti and staff continued to check in on me at home, and answered any questions my husband or I had, and I had several follow-up visits to his office. Unfortunately about 4-5 months after surgery I began to develop scar tissue around my left breast. Dr. Pousti and his staff handled it with the appropriate immediacy. I was put on two rounds of accolate and told to massage extremely aggressively. Luckily, I am now a year post-op and both breast are soft. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of my surgery, and so is my husband. At a year post-op my breast are exactly how I had always wanted. I wanted large but natural looking breasts and that is exactly what he gave me. I was scared that I would have to have surgery again due to the scar tissue, but Dr. Pousti and his staff were on top of things and together we were able to deal with it. I would strongly recommend Dr. Pousti to any friends or family that were thinking about having surgery. If in the future there are other procedures I want done I will definitely go back to Dr. Pousti. Thank you again Dr. Pousti and Staff for helping to make me more confident and comfortable in my body! J.P.
Dear Dr. Pousti and office staff,
I am a very happy 4 year post-op patient of Dr. Pousti. After difficulties breast feeding my first daughter I was left with uneven breasts. I had always had a fairly small chest but having uneven breasts became very difficult. Wearing shirts day to day was a chore….layering tank tops, stuffing one side of my chest so I didn’t look so uneven. It wore on me mentally & lowered my self esteem. So after 6 yrs of this struggle I sought out a plastic surgeon. I had several consultations up & down the coast of southern CA with “top” surgeons…Del Mar, La Jolla, Orange County but when I met Dr. Pousti it was a very different experience. He didn’t ask me about CC’s or cup sizes. He asked me for photos…”what do you want to look like? What do you want to achieve? What shape do you want? Do you want them to look natural?” He talked to me about why I wanted the procedure. I was 100% reassured by him & his staff simply by their natural demeanor. I wasn’t a “sale”. I would recommend them & will return!
