In San Diego, spring is synonymous with swimsuit shopping. You worked hard all winter to look sexy and toned in a new bikini, and all those hours of sweating it out at the gym have paid off. Unfortunately, there’s still one thing holding you back from bearing it all at the beach this summer: spider veins.

Finding a cluster of spider veins on your legs can easily kill your confidence when it comes to strutting your stuff in a tiny bikini. Contrary to popular belief, you didn’t get them from crossing your legs at your desk. However, several factors do contribute to spider veins, and being aware of them will help prevent new ones from popping up in the future.

What exactly are spider veins and how are they different from varicose veins?

These are great questions, and ones we get often from patients undergoing spider vein removal at Prime Med Spa.

Spider veins are thin red, purple, and blue blood vessels that are easily visible through the skin. They most often occur on the legs and face but can appear anywhere on the body. Most patients who undergo spider vein removal do so because they’re unhappy with the way they look, not because of a health issue.

Varicose veins, on the other hand, are much larger veins that twist and turn. They bulge up from under the surface of the skin. Varicose veins can be dark purple or blue, and they sometimes cause an achy, throbbing feeling in the legs.

What causes spider veins?

In many cases, spider veins are hereditary (thanks Mom!) but other factors can contribute. Spider veins tend to show up in older adults, and are more common in women than they are in men. If you work at a job where you stand on your feet most of the day (we’re looking at you, nurses, and teachers), excess pressure in the veins of the legs can cause spider veins to develop. Additional causes of spider veins include:

  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Menopause
  • Hormone therapy
  • Birth control pills
  • Prior vein surgery
  • Trauma or injury to the skin
  • History of blood clots

Okay, so how do I get rid of spider veins?

Regardless of why you have spider veins, you don’t have to deal with them forever. At Prime Med Spa in San Diego, we use the Quanta Light 4V laser to get rid of unsightly spider veins safely and effectively. The laser works by emitting a highly focused beam of light at the affected area. The light destroys the veins, causing them to fade and disappear from view. That’s it!

The Quanta Light 4V laser offers a comfortable experience with or without numbing cream, and no needles or incisions are required. Some patients experience mild redness, itching, and swelling at the targeted site following treatment, but these symptoms typically subside within a few days.

Come to Prime Med Spa to banish your spider veins for good!

Long pulsed lasers, like the Quanta Light 4V System, are the best technology on the market for zapping clusters of spider veins to reveal the sexy, flawless legs you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Schedule your free consultation for spider vein removal at Prime Med Spa in San Diego. We’ll show you how easy it is to get the results you want at a price you can afford.
