Gynecomastia is also called Male Breast Reduction Surgery.

Liposuction and/or direct excision can both be used as treatment for gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is defined as breast enlargement in men and can affect one breast or both. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40-60% of men and ranges from mild to severe. In most cases, men feel self-conscious about the appearance of their chest and research for ways they can improve the contours of their chest. Breast reduction is a popular option to remove the adipose and glandular tissue from the breasts to achieve a flatter and firmer look. Depending on the severity and complexity of each case, an incision inside the areolar border would be less conspicuous and enables the surgeon to perform liposuction surgery to remove adipose tissue.

Do I have to wear a special vest after this surgery?

Yes, a compression vest is worn for about 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Does this surgery guarantee that the gynecomastia will not come back?

Unfortunately, no surgery can guarantee results indefinitely.

How long do I have be off of work after surgery?

Each patient will differ depending on the type of work they perform but we ask patients to take off 1 week and then limit strenuous work and/or lifting for the first month.

Below is a case where liposuction as well as direct excision were performed with a small incision:

Below case is a more severe case of gynecomastia and so the incision is placed around the entire areola and breast lifting is performed in addition to liposuction and direct excision of breast tissue:
